Match Report: Burton Albion 0-1 Derby County

Jacobs scores as the rams seal their first pre season victory

Derby got their first win of pre season with a 1-0 victory over Burton Albion, new boy Michael Jacobs gave Derby the lead with a curling shot into the bottom corner. 

Derby team:  Fielding (GK) (Deeney 60); Brayford (Naylor 70), Gjokaj (Buxton 77) Keogh (O’Brien 77), Hoganson (Bailey 77); Coutts (Doyle 70), Hendrick (B. Davies 70), Bryson (Hughes 45), Jacobs (Caton 60);Ward (Bennett 60), Tyson (Robinson 60).

Burton team: Atkins (GK) Corbett, Diamond (Stanton 50), Taylor (M. Palmer 70), Weir (Dyer 77), Adebola (Patterson 54), Yussuf (Williams 45), McCrory, Maghoma, Holness, Bell.

Subs Not Used: Lyness (GK), C. Palmer.

Derby started the game with two trailists Gjokaj who started against Mansfield and Hoganson a left back, the Rams started the game lively and had much of the ball. On loan Burton keeper Ross Atkins made a good save when a deflected shot came from Nathan Tyson, the rams had some chances and played some good stuff on the wings with John Brayford pushing up for the rams and Michael Jacobs also. Derby also had another great chance but Jeff Hendrick could not convert for them and smashed his volley over the bar, but Burton's Dele Adebola previously from Hull and rivals Nottingham Forest made a great run inside the box out muscling new boy Richard Keogh and then had a shot but Frank Fielding then made a very good save,but the ball landed too Robbie Weir who missed from 10 yards, hitting the bar.

Derby started the second half very well, and on the 49th minute the rams took the lead with a good move from Derby, Tyson gave the ball to Jacobs and he ran with it cut inside and curled the ball in pass the Burton keeper Ross Atkins. Burton had a chance after the rams scored but the ball hit the side netting, Derby carried on piling the pressure with James Caton causing problems on the wing and looking very lively. Caton got passed his man and cut inside but Ross Atkins was able to deal with the shot. With not many things happening in the second half Derby came out on top with a 1-0 victory.
