Derby County preview 2012/13

The Manager

Right man for the job?
This is Nigel Clough's third full season in charge for the rams, finishing 19th and 12th in his previous seasons. Clough now has his own team which is a young squad with a lot of talent. Last season was a season of progress for the rams, the highlight was doing the double over Nottingham Forest.

Some people ask the question is Nigel the man for the job, well is he? In my opinion I think he is doing a good job with the money he has, he has now got his own squad which looks very good and promising. If Derby do not finish about 12th then more of the fans will turn their back on Clough as the fans will lose patience.

Players to watch
With Derby making 3 signing so far this summer (Coutts,Jacobs and Keogh) the players that I have tipped for you to watch for next season are:

Michel Jacobs
Jacobs who came from Northampton in the summer has already proved in both friendlies so far why many clubs were after the highly rated youngster. The left sided winger is said to be a future start with his trickiness down the wing and his cut ins are the reason why clubs were after him in the summer. The young man made a lot of assists for Northampton last year and this is one of the reasons why Clough snapped him up, Clough has said that Jacobs has been the best out of his 3 signings so far saying that he works hard in training.

Jamie Ward

Jamie Ward has a good season for the rams last year, one of the most memorable highlights from him last season was taking on two forest defenders before slotting home to equalise for Derby. He is another winger that causes problems with his pace and trickery, Clough has hinted that Ward might have to play upfront for Derby next season, but on the wing is where his best ability comes from.

Where I think Derby will finish
I think that Derby will finish 10th next season, if the rams can get a new striker and a LB then I think we have a chance to do well, the 3 news signings so far have been very good for me. If Derby can get off to a good start and hold onto to good start until December than I think they could have a good chance of finishing high in the table. What I am expecting more better from Derby this season is more consistency and more goals.
