Derby started the game with 2 defeats away from home (Millwall and Crystal Palace) but have only lost just 1 game at home this season. The rams started the game very well, with Michael Jacobs causing trouble down the left wing. Paul Coutts and Brayford again linked up well to cause a threat on the other wing. Birmingham had the better chances in the first half with Wade Elliot and Morrison coming close for the blues, but the Rams took the lead in the 31st min, Jacobs who looked lively in the first half had an attempt on goal but the keeper managed to tip the ball onto the post, the ball came to Sammon who was there to nod the ball home. Derby could have been 2-0 or 3-0 up but Bryson and Robinson missed chances for the Rams.

Birmingham started the second half better, with chances straight away from Zigic and Morrison. The blues sent on loanee Hall from West Ham, Hall looked very good when coming on having a shot straight away but missed by inches. Derby had there chances with Theo Robinson hitting over after a good pass by 17 year old Will Hughes, he also had his own chance but Butland saved well. Hall yet again caused more trouble and got himself a penalty after Keogh brought him down in the area, Marlon King took the penalty and scored making the score 1-1. King could have scored again but his deflected shot hit the bar, but the best was yet to come. Connor Sammon doubled Derby's lead with a scruffy effort, that was his 4th goal since joining the Rams in August. The atmosphere at Pride Park increased and the fans started getting behind the players, but however in the 82nd minute Birmingham again scored an equaliser, Spector crossed the ball for Lovenkrands who headed the ball home sending the Birmingham fans mental. The score now 2-2, but that wasn't the end of it, with Birmingham piling on the pressure sending men forward for the winner, Will Hughes passed the ball to the edge of the box to Jacobs who crossed it in for Tyson who sent the ball home, 3-2 Derby. Tyson's goal won it for Derby who move up to 12th in the table.
