But on 11 minutes Derby got their goal with on form Nathan Tyson scoring from a Jamie Ward flick. Tyson controlled the ball and hit it in the bottom right corner passed Chris Kirkland. Derby had even more chances from Jamie Ward and Keogh but none of them could score, the Rams seemed to take control of the game and on the 27th minute Derby got their reward with Jake Buxton scoring from a header from a Paul Coutts corner. Derby could have put the game to bed but Tyson had his volley saved by Kirkland. But the Owls got a goal back from O'Grady, he turned his man Gareth Roberts and turned and shot, what a goal it was the ball flew into the top right corner. Derby managed to hang onto the lead at half time.

The second half was largely dominated by Wednesday with them having plenty of chances, but before all those chances came, Derby had one of their own. Jamie Ward took Derby's free kick and smacked it into Kirkland's hands. Johnson skipped past three Derby players and looked likely to score but hit the ball over the crossbar. The Wednesday fans thought they had saw their team get the equaliser when Gary Madine hit the ball in the net but he was ruled offside. Sheffield Wednesday piled on the pressure and it was a nervy last 20 minutes with Derby lucky to hang on. Another goal was ruled offside again, but the Derby fans could sense something coming. And it came, in the 90th minute when Reda Johnson headed the ball home, sending the Wednesday fans crazy. The owls could have made it 3-2 but Fielding made a great save, with a draw being the fair result.
