| Tyson dedicates his goal to an old friend |
Derby County: Fielding (GK); Brayford (Gjokaj 65), Keogh, Buxtton, Naylor (Hoganson 70); Coutts (Bailey 79), Hughes (Tyson 63), Hendrick, Jacobs (Davies 85); Ward (Barrera 85) Robinson (Doyle 85).
Subs Not Used: Legzdins (GK).
Sunderland: Mignolet (GK); Elmohamady, O’Shea, Cuellar (Egan 63), Adams; Larsson, Gardner (Richardson 45), Colback (Noble 75), Meyler (Cattermole 45), McLean (Knott 79); Campbell.
The game started off very slowly for both teams, but the Rams were the first to test with Theo Robinson coming close from a Michael Jacobs cross, Cuellar for Sunderland deflected the ball onto the post. Sunderland then had a chance of there own with James McLean coming close for them but Frank Fielding made a great save tipping it round the post. Derby were passing the ball well but at times the defence looked shakey especially new boy Richard Keogh making some silly errors.
There were a couple of chances for both sides with Sunderland hitting the post twice, and Jamie Ward testing Mignolet from about 25 yards out. Paul Coutts was doing really well on the right hand side making some good tackles and runs. With no real action in the first half the scoreline was still the same, with Sunderland just about edging it in real threats.
Half time: Derby 0-0 Sunderland
The second half started even for both teams with Sunderland threating more than the Rams, Sunderland looking sharp on the ball, but Derby got back into it with 17 year old Will Hughes looking very good on the ball. Seb Larsson threaded through a great ball to Frazier Campbell but he lost his footing in the vital moments but still managed to get a shot in, but frank fielding got a hand on to it and Richard Keogh cleared the ball away. But then Sunderland had another chance to score and this time they did with Richardson passing the ball to James McLean who managed to put the ball into the back of the net.
After the goal there were not really chances for both teams with Derby crossing the ball in but were missing a target man, on the 85th minute the rams made 3 subs with Jacobs,Ward and Robinson coming off and Doyle,Ben Davies and Barrera who is a trailist for the rams coming on. And in the last minute of the game left back Hoganson whipped the ball in and Tyson headed the ball home to score his first ever goal for the Rams.
Full time: Derby 1-1 Sunderland
What I thought of the game: I though that Derby played well, passing the ball neatly across the park, but however they were missing a target man, someone that can stay in the box and can header the ball. It was a frustrating day for the wingers I felt, with them crossing the ball in but no one there to finish the move off.
