My summer Transfer targets

Same old story for Derby as another mid table finish is looking likely, Derby are already out of the FA cup after a 3-0 defeat against Blackburn and don't look play off contenders. So is Derby's season already over? In this article I will be looking at our current squad and who we should be getting rid of in the summer and who we should sign to make our squad stronger for next season to make a bigger impact.

Current squad:

Goalkeepers
  • Frank Fielding
  • Adam Legzdins
  • Saul Deeney
  • Ross Atkins
Defenders
  • John Brayford
  • Richard Keogh
  • Jake Buxton
  • Mark O'Brien
  • Gareth Roberts
  • Kieron Freeman
  • James O'Connor
  • Shaun Barker
Midfielders
  • Paul Coutts
  • Michael Jacobs
  • Craig Bryson
  • Will Hughes
  • Jeff Hendrick
  • Connor Doyle
  • Ben Davies
Strikers
  • Jamie Ward
  • Theo Robinson
  • Connor Sammon
  • Nathan Tyson
  • Mason Bennett
Looking at this squad Derby need to freshen up in defence as it seems the weakest position in the squad. Are Buxton and O'Connor good enough for the championship? Another weak link that has cost the Rams in previous games is CM, they need a player that is willing to put a tackle in and not scared to challenge for the ball. Over the years the Derby faithful have voiced their concerns about not having a 20 goal a season striker, is Connor Sammon a goal scorer? No.

Players I would get rid of in the current squad
  • Ross Atkins- Not needed at Derby, waste of wages.
  • Gareth Roberts- Getting older and won't be as useful to the squad next season, time for a change at LB.
  • Connor Doyle- Been here for 3 years now and hasn't made an impact, time for him to go?
  • Ben Davies- Not had much game time this season and can't see him playing regularly any time soon.
  • Connor Sammon- Been poor since his move from Wigan in the summer, not worth the 1.2m Derby wasted on him.
  • Nathan Tyson- Not included in Clough's plans for the future, surely he will leave in the summer?
Who i'd want to replace these players
  • Simeon Jackson- Good finisher and is a striker that would be very useful to Derby. He COULD be our 20 goal a season striker.
  • Harry Forrester- 22 years of age and has a bright future ahead, he is an attacking midfielder who plays for Brentford. He is the type of player that can boost the Rams midfield.
  • Jack Robinson- Young LB from Liverpool would be useful to the current Derby side, would help the Rams down the left hand side.
  • Luke Moore- Not getting much game time at Swansea so surely he wouldn't be a bad signing? Gives us more option in attack
  • DJ Campbell- The experienced striker is not in Harry Redknapp's plans at QPR, so having him at Derby will help us push for the top 6 next season.
