Match Report :Derby County 5-5 Scunthorpe (6-7 pen)

Derby County: Fielding (GK); Brayford, Keogh, Buxton, Roberts (Naylor 62); Coutts, Hughes (Bennett 87), Bryson (B. Davies 62), Jacobs; Tyson, Robinson.

Subs Not Used: Legzdins (GK), Lelan, Doyle, S. Davies.
Scunthorpe United: Slocombe (GK); Kennedy, Ribeiro, Mirfin, Newey; Duffy, Walker, Ryan, Grant; Barcham (Jennings 84), Grella.

Sub Not Used: Severn (GK), Gibbins, Godden, Hughes, Howe, Keegan.

Derby started the match very brightly with the Rams having some very good chances, Craig Bryson had a chance with only 2 minutes gone, Slocombe the Scunthorpe keeper made some very good saves denying Theo Robinson. Others had their chances to with Will Hughes having a good effort on goal but yet again the keeper made a very good save. But Derby did score with Michael Jacobs whipping in a corner and Richard Keogh was there to head the ball home. Then a couple of minutes after Derby got another goal to make it 2-0 this time Jake Buxton heading the ball home, the Rams finally got their 3rd goal of the game with Theo Robinson scoring from a Michael Jacobs flick, Derby looked very comfortable with Scunthorpe hardly threatening  at all.  Will Hughes was Derby's best player in the first half with some great touches on the ball, the 17 year old has settled in the first team very well and looks to have a good future ahead of him. So at half  time it was 3-0 Derby, but that wasn't the end of it. 

First half: Derby 3-0 Scunthorpe 

Both teams started the second half brightly with Scunthorpe creating more chances, their goal came in the 52nd minute with a good run from Barcham skipping past the Derby defenders and putting the ball into the net making it 3-1, but Derby made it 4-1 a couple of minutes later by yet again another free kick from Michael Jacobs and Jake Buxton got his second goal to put Derby in a comfortable lead. The Rams made 2 substitutions with Craig Bryson and Gareth Roberts coming off and to replace them were Tom Naylor and Ben Davies. Grella for Scunthorpe smashed the ball home to make it 4-2 and set up an entertaining last half an hour. But then Derby got a penalty after Keogh was tripped up in the penalty area, Theo Robinson stepped up to take it but however the on form keeper saved the penalty, Scunthorpe quickly broke away and managed to make it 4-3 with Grant scoring. But Tyson scored his first ever competitive goal for Derby to make it 5-3, surely that was Derby through to the next round. Jennings made it 5-4 by scoring for Scunthorpe which set up a tense last couple of minuets, the guests put a lot of pressure onto Derby, then the unthinkable happened Tom Naylor gave a penalty away. Grant got his second which sent the travelling fans mental.

Second half: Derby 5-5 Scunthorpe 

Extra time had arrived and Scunthorpe had a chance straight away with Grant just hitting over after getting past Keogh. Coutts,Davies and Bennett all came close to scoring for Derby but none of them could just get the ball in the net. With no goals in ET the game went to penalties. Brayford,B Davies and Naylor all missed their penalties which gave Scunthorpe the win and saw them advance into the next round.
